About My Free Census

Helping Genealogists Find Free Census Records Since 2013

Welcome to My Free Census, an online directory dedicated to helping family historians locate free census records and historical census information from the United States and around the world.

My Free Census was established in 2013 with a simple mission:

"Keeping census records free like they should be"

Our goal is to make it easier for genealogists to discover freely available census records, indexes, transcriptions, and other historical resources without having to search through numerous websites.

Over 30 Years of Genealogical Research Experience

My Free Census was founded by Lynn Tooley, a genealogical researcher with over 30 years of experience researching historical records.

My research has taken me to the National Archives, state archives and libraries, local libraries, and genealogical societies, where I have worked directly with original historical documents and genealogical collections.

Over the years, I have personally transcribed census records and other historical records to help preserve genealogical information and make it more accessible to family historians.

In addition to my research experience, I have spent approximately 20 years developing genealogy websites that help researchers discover historical records and trace their family histories.

I established My Free Census in 2013 to help genealogists locate free census records, indexes, transcriptions, and related historical resources.

My commitment remains the same today: "Keeping census records free like they should be."

What You'll Find on My Free Census

My Free Census organizes census resources geographically, making it easier to locate records for a particular state or country.

Our directory helps researchers find:

  • United States federal census records
  • State and territorial census records
  • Colonial census records
  • International census records
  • Census indexes and transcriptions
  • Census substitutes and related historical resources

We provide historical information and links to available resources, including original record transcriptions and collections maintained by other genealogical organizations.

Our Connection to New Horizons Genealogy

My Free Census is associated with New Horizons Genealogy, another genealogy website I maintain.

While My Free Census focuses on helping researchers locate census records and related information, New Horizons Genealogy provides access to historical record transcriptions and additional genealogical research resources.

Visit New Horizons Genealogy to explore these collections.

Our Commitment

I believe that access to historical census records is an important part of preserving family history.

My goal is to continue helping researchers discover free census records, locate useful historical resources, and learn more about the lives of their ancestors.

Thank you for visiting My Free Census.
